A barge is a flat-bottomed cargo ship designed to carry a variety of goods. It has simplified body contours. As a rule, the barge is not equipped with an engine and a tug is used to set it in motion. However, there is a separate category of self-propelled barges that move independently by means of an engine.
There are several types of barges:
- Raid
- River
- Systemic
- Usually, barges move along the waters within one country, most often along rivers and lakes, less often – in the seas.
