A trip aboard the historic excursion schooner Grace Bailey off the coast of the American state of Maine ended in tragedy for passengers.
One mile east of Rockland Harbor, where the 118-foot yacht was returning from a four-day cruise, its main mast suddenly split and the top fell onto the deck. As a result, one person was killed and three more were injured.
A coast guard vessel was located nearby and promptly began evacuating the wounded passengers. One of them had a head injury, and the other two had a spinal injury.
